New Visas for Christmas?
Immigration has announced a new ‘Skills in Demand’ visa will replace the TSS (subclass 482) visa by Christmas 2024.
Eligibility requirements,
- 1 year of relevant work experience (down from 2 years)
- Occupations earning $135K or more can apply even if they are not on the job list (trades and labourers are excluded from this)
- Other jobs will need to be
- on the new job list, called the ‘Core Skills Occupation List’ (not finalised yet)
- paid a base salary over a new threshold (expected to be around $70K or so)
- It is also expected that there will be a ‘Labour Agreement’ stream to provide special arrangements to industries/organisations who can successfully negotiate a deal with the federal government
The ‘Skills in Demand’ visa is expected to have these key features,
- 4-year duration
- Clear pathway to permanent residence
Immigration are also expected to replace the Global Talent visa with a ‘National Innovation’ visa. Applications will be by invitation only, may be limited to specific areas of achievement, and are likely to be limited to individuals with an “Internationally recognised record of exceptional talent” who are “prominent in their field”.
